Image processing and 3D printing are both separate technologies that are expanding dramatically over these years and have been applied individually in many fields. An interesting and fresh application of combining this pair could be by extracting features from images and producing 3D printing.

Research Objective

In this project, features from 2D images are extracted using proprietary algorithm which are used in generating its 3D outlines.

This process does not require manual editing of image to obtain edges. The automated conversion process allows it to easily take input image, adapt the necessary parameters and convert to 3D model. With the current technology of 3D printing, it enables possibility of printing a recognisable 3D output for most given input image.
